Description

OKW Kurland Battle Report: Overview

A wartime administrative document under the letterhead of the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht, Berlin W35, dated 15 December 1944 and marked “Abschrift 2”, a contemporary official copy. It is an “Ergänzung zum OKW-Bericht”, a supplement to an OKW report, covering 28 November to 1 December 1944.

Historical Context

The text concerns hard defensive fighting near Frauenburg in Kurland, one of the last areas where German forces held out on the Eastern Front in the final months of the war. It mentions the conduct of a battalion of a Württemberg grenadier regiment and the 19th Volunteer Division under Gruppenführer Streckenbach. Its language of commendation and reporting shows how information moved through official military channels late in the war.
