Description
WWII German Wehrpass: Overview
A Wehrpass issued in Fürth, Bavaria, on 29 January 1940 to Wilhelm Hack, born 30 June 1908 in Kienfeld, district of Höchstadt an der Aisch, a farmer (Bauer). It keeps his portrait photograph with stamps and signature, and an associated Verwendungskarte (personnel card) repeating his details.
Key Entries
- Erkennungsmarke: “Stamm-Kp. Gren. Ers. Btl. 42”, the depot company of Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 42. The battalion was formed in Bayreuth (Wehrkreis XIII) in 1939 as Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 42 and renamed in 1942, so the entry shows the book was still being updated later in the war.
- Security instruction: entries of 14 and 18 October 1944 recording instruction on espionage, sabotage, treason and official secrets, signed by a Hauptmann and company commander.
