Description

WWII German Third Reich Insignia Lot: Overview

Seven different badges, tinnies and commemorative pieces covering German political, civil, military and commemorative insignia, rather than a single organisation. The lot is offered exactly as photographed.

What the Lot Contains

  • 1 Mai 1936 badge: circular, with industrial and agricultural imagery and the eagle. Dated May Day badges can be placed in a precise historical context.
  • Enamel pin: small oval badge with a black eagle above a red cross, a design associated with the Deutsches Rotes Kreuz.
  • Anti-aircraft badge: the largest piece, oval, with an anti-aircraft gun within an ornamental wreath, surmounted by an eagle.
  • Small badge with crossed military elements and the numerals 19 and 32.
  • Dark eagle-form insignia.
  • Bronze-coloured medallion with a mother-and-child relief.
  • Circular metal piece with horizontal pin and stamped lettering on the reverse.

Condition

Varying preservation: patina, oxidation, scratches, staining, surface deterioration and loss of finish. Several pieces keep their pins. Nothing has been restored. The photographs show both sides and form part of the description.

Provenance

No further provenance is recorded.

Authenticity

The lot is sold as a group of collector’s insignia. Not every piece can be confirmed as a period original, and some may be later pieces or reproductions; the lot is described and priced on that basis. The pieces are identified from their design, inscriptions and construction. Where these do not allow a confident identification, no attribution is made. A more detailed opinion on any individual piece is available on request.

Legal Note

Some pieces carry symbols whose display, sale or import is restricted in certain countries. Each collector is responsible for the rules of their own country.
