Description
Mitteilungen für das Offizierkorps 1942: Overview
A group of original officer bulletins, “Mitteilungen für das Offizierkorps”, issued under the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht in 1942 and kept in a filing format. At least three numbered issues are identifiable: No. 1 (January), No. 3 (March) and No. 4 (April). Punched filing holes, handwritten filing marks, stamps and reference numbers show they were circulated and kept as working material.
The Issues
- No. 1, January 1942: “Fürsorge und Führung” (Care and Leadership).
- No. 3, March 1942: “Die Verantwortung des deutschen Offiziers” (The Responsibility of the German Officer), with a section “Die feindliche Giftoffensive” on alleged enemy psychological or chemical warfare.
- No. 4, April 1942: on the officer’s role in Wehrmacht propaganda and ideological leadership.
Historical Context
The bulletins aimed to shape attitudes, discipline, command responsibility and reactions to enemy propaganda in the officer corps. They are a primary source for the internal culture of the Wehrmacht and the ideological instruction directed at its officers, and should be read strictly as such.
