Description

Hermann Göring Signed Professor Appointment Document – Arthur Lüttringhaus Academic Appointment Pair

This Hermann Göring signed professor appointment document is the principal piece in an original two-document German academic promotion group issued to Dr. Arthur Lüttringhaus during the Second World War period. The group consists of an earlier 1939 appointment document naming Lüttringhaus as lecturer, together with a larger 1941 promotion document appointing him Associate Professor. The 1941 document is dated Führer Headquarters, 28 August 1941, and bears a facsimile Adolf Hitler signature together with a handwritten Hermann Göring signature.

The Hermann Göring signed professor appointment document is a substantial original period record of academic administration during wartime Germany. It is not a detached autograph, clipped signature or later reproduction. It is a complete formal appointment document issued in the name of the German state, naming Dr. Arthur Lüttringhaus and granting him the position of ausserordentlicher Professor, or Associate Professor.

The text states that Lüttringhaus was appointed to a permanent civil-service relationship and expresses the expectation that he would fulfil his official duties conscientiously. The document also states that special protection was granted to him through the appointment. Its wording, layout, blackletter typography and large official format make it a visually strong example of an original wartime academic certificate.

The 1941 Hermann Göring signed professor appointment document is especially notable because the signature combination is clearly differentiated. The document includes a facsimile Adolf Hitler signature, which is printed as part of the issued certificate, while the Hermann Göring signature is handwritten in ink. This distinction is important for accurate cataloguing and should always be stated clearly. The item should not be described as personally signed by Adolf Hitler.

The second document in the group is an earlier professional appointment certificate issued in Berlin on 18 October 1939. It names Dr. Arthur Lüttringhaus as lecturer and provides the earlier stage of his academic advancement. Together, the 1939 and 1941 documents form a coherent career-related grouping rather than two unrelated pieces of paper. This connection gives the lot greater historical and collecting value than a single isolated document.

Both documents measure approximately 255 x 355 mm. The 1941 promotion certificate is preserved within its original period card-stock folio, adding an important element of completeness. The folio protects the certificate and supports the document’s original presentation as an official academic appointment. The period folder is included with the sale.

The condition is very good overall for fragile wartime paper documentation. The documents show age-appropriate folds, light discolouration, handling marks and minor paper fatigue. These characteristics are consistent with original documents that were issued, retained and stored for more than eight decades. The 1941 certificate shows visible fold lines and light surface toning, while the handwritten Hermann Göring signature remains visually strong against the lower section of the document.

This Hermann Göring signed professor appointment document has particular relevance for collectors of original World War II documents, wartime German academic records, signed historical certificates and institutional paper ephemera. Its strength lies not only in the signature, but also in the named recipient, precise date, official wording, paired 1939 certificate and surviving original folder.

Dr. Arthur Lüttringhaus was a decorated First World War veteran and held several earlier awards and distinctions. However, the importance of this group is focused on his professional academic appointment during the 1939–1941 period. The documents provide a primary-source record of how academic promotions and state appointments were formalised during wartime.

Only the two original appointment documents and the period card-stock folio are included. No frame, certificate of authenticity, display stand, translation or additional paperwork is included unless specifically stated. The documents should be preserved in archival polyester sleeves or museum-grade framing materials, protected from direct sunlight, moisture and pressure.

This Hermann Göring signed professor appointment document is offered solely as a historical and documentary collectible for research, preservation, education and responsible collecting. It does not promote, endorse, excuse or glorify National Socialism, its leaders, institutions, ideology or crimes.

A scarce and visually important original wartime academic appointment group, combining a 1939 lecturer certificate with a 1941 Associate Professor appointment bearing a facsimile Hitler signature, an original handwritten Hermann Göring signature and the original period folio.
