Description

Golden Wedding Certificate: Overview

A large decorative certificate of congratulations on a golden wedding, wishing the couple many more peaceful years with their family. It has red and black Gothic lettering, a floral border and a coloured illustration of a wedding couple with a large golden “50”. In the lower centre is the printed facsimile signature of Adolf Hitler above the title “Der Führer und Reichskanzler”, with the embossed state seal below.

The signature is a printed facsimile and part of the design, not a handwritten autograph.

Historical Context

Comparable certificates of 1938 are held in German museum collections, issued through the Presidential Chancellery and printed by the Reichsdruckerei. They brought official imagery into private family milestones and are studied today as evidence of how state symbolism entered everyday life. Without an accompanying letter or envelope, this example is dated conservatively to the late 1930s.

Condition

Good for a large paper certificate: light toning, some edge wear, small handling marks, minor creases and mild wear to the upper corners. Colours remain strong and the seal and signature are well preserved. The photographs show the actual document and form part of the description.

Offered as an original period document on the basis of paper, printing, stamps, handwriting and ageing, which are consistent with each other and with the dates recorded.

Care

Store flat in an archival polyester sleeve or acid-free folder, away from sunlight, humidity and adhesives. For display, use acid-free mounts and UV-protective glazing.
