Description

Franz Gürtner Signed Christmas Card: Overview

A complete, undated German greeting card printed “Die besten Wünsche zum Weihnachtsfest und Neuen Jahre” (best wishes for Christmas and the New Year) and signed in dark ink by Dr. Franz Gürtner across the lower centre. As a complete card rather than a clipped signature, it keeps message, paper, typography and autograph together.

Historical Context

Franz Gürtner (1881–1941) served as German Minister of Justice from 1932 until his death, including the years of National Socialist rule. His office places this card within a difficult chapter of legal and political history, and it is offered only as a historical document.

Franz Gürtner Signed Christmas Card: Description

  • Type: printed greeting card, signed
  • Signed by: Dr. Franz Gürtner, in dark ink
  • Date: undated; no recipient, place or envelope recorded
  • Paper: cream card with deckle edges
  • Inventory code: DOC145

Condition

Fine for its age, with natural toning, light handling and the irregular deckle edges of manufacture. Printed message and signature are clear. The photographs show the actual card and form part of the description.

Provenance

No further provenance is recorded.

Authenticity

Offered as an original hand-signed card. Assessment of a signature rests on a coherent set of features (line quality, writing movement, pressure and comparison with documented examples) rather than any single detail. A written examination by a qualified handwriting examiner can be provided on request.

Care

Keep in an archival sleeve, away from sunlight, humidity, adhesives and pressure. If framed, use acid-free materials and UV-protective glazing.
