Anmeldung zur polizeilichen Einwohnererfassung: Overview

Three police population-registration forms from occupied Poland, titled “Anmeldung zur polizeilichen Einwohnererfassung” and in Polish “Zgłoszenie celem policyjnego stwierdzenia ludności”. Each was completed for a different individual and keeps its handwritten entries, signature, fingerprint and official stamps. Kept together, they allow comparison of how one standard format was applied to different civilians.

Historical Context

The questionnaires record name, date and place of birth, sex, marital status, religion, declared nationality, language spoken at home, occupation, previous service in the Polish Army, household and property. The bilingual reverse warns that false or missing declarations were punishable and that the form was to be carried by its holder. The compulsory categories of religion, nationality and language make these forms important evidence of how the occupation administration classified the population.

Condition

Fair to good: folds, creases, stains, edge wear, small tears and occasional losses. Some entries are clearer than others, but titles, printed text, handwriting, signatures, stamps and fingerprints remain visible. The photographs show the actual forms and form part of the description.

Offered as an original period document on the basis of paper, printing, stamps, handwriting and ageing, which are consistent with each other and with the dates recorded.
