Description

Original German Second World War award document issued in Berlin on 30 January 1944 for the Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse, or War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Adolf Hitler facsimile.

The certificate was awarded to Reichsbahnsekretär Eduard Weber in Oebisfelde, connecting the document directly with the German Reichsbahn railway administration during the later years of the Second World War.

Printed prominently across the upper section is the formal state wording:

“IM NAMEN DES DEUTSCHEN VOLKES VERLEIHE ICH”

followed by the recipient’s name and the award:

“DAS KRIEGSVERDIENSTKREUZ 2. KLASSE.”

The most striking feature for collectors is the official period facsimile signature of Adolf Hitler, positioned beneath the printed designation “DER FÜHRER.”

This should be correctly understood as a facsimile signature used on official German award documentation of the period and not as a personally handwritten Adolf Hitler autograph. Nevertheless, its presence is a significant visual and historical element and makes the certificate particularly attractive for collections centred on German WWII documents, award paperwork and Third Reich administrative history.

An additional handwritten signature or countersignature is present at the lower right of the certificate. It appears to read “Meissner”, although this attribution has not been independently authenticated and is therefore presented cautiously.

The Kriegsverdienstkreuz, instituted in 1939, was awarded for meritorious service connected with the German war effort. The 2nd Class was issued both in military and civilian contexts, and surviving award documents are valuable historical records because they preserve the individual recipient’s identity, profession, location and exact date of the award.

The occupation stated here — Reichsbahnsekretär — is particularly interesting because the Reichsbahn played an essential logistical role in wartime Germany, transporting personnel, materials and supplies throughout the railway network.

The document retains the large-format official German eagle and swastika emblem at the top, period typography, typed recipient details, Berlin date, Hitler facsimile signature and additional countersignature.

Condition is consistent with an original wartime paper document. Visible features include age toning, minor spotting and staining, handling marks, punched filing holes on the left margin and general signs of period storage. These have not been artificially removed and form part of the document’s historical character.

The photographs show the actual document offered and should be examined carefully as part of the condition description.

A strong historical display piece for collectors of WWII German documents, Kriegsverdienstkreuz certificates, Reichsbahn material, Third Reich administrative documents, Adolf Hitler facsimile signatures and German wartime awards.

Guaranteed as an original period collectible as described.

Historical artifact offered exclusively for collecting, research and educational purposes. The sale and description of this item do not represent endorsement or glorification of the ideology represented by the historical material.
