J’accepte très volontiers de faire partie du Comité d’Honneur, que vous instituez, pour apposer une Plaque sur l’immeuble habité par M. Camille JULLIAN.
Je vous prie d’agréer, Mademoiselle, l’expression de mes hommages respectueux.”

English translation:

“Mademoiselle,
I very willingly agree to become a member of the Honorary Committee that you are establishing in order to place a plaque on the building inhabited by Mr Camille Jullian.
Please accept, Mademoiselle, the expression of my respectful regards.”

The subject is cultural rather than military or political, which creates an interesting contrast with Pétain’s later wartime leadership.

From French National Hero to Controversial WWII Leader
