Description

This Original OKW Kurland Battle Report 1944 is a surviving wartime administrative document issued under the letterhead of the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht in Berlin. Dated 15 December 1944, it is marked Abschrift 2, meaning “Copy No. 2,” identifying it as a contemporary official copy rather than a later reproduction. It is an original paper document from the Second World War and preserves valuable evidence of the German military administrative system during the final phase of the conflict.

The document is headed Oberkommando der Wehrmacht and carries the Berlin W35 address block, including the date “15.12.1944.” It refers to a report covering the period from 28 November to 1 December 1944 and is presented as an Ergänzung zum OKW Bericht, or supplementary report to an OKW report. This wording gives the document a clear administrative purpose: it was created to add information to an existing military reporting process.

The text refers to hard defensive fighting near Frauenburg in Kurland, a late-war operational area on the Eastern Front. It mentions the performance of a battalion from a Württemberg Grenadier Regiment and also refers to the 19th Volunteer Division under the command of Gruppenführer Streckenbach. These references give the Original OKW Kurland Battle Report 1944 particular interest for collectors and researchers focused on the Kurland Pocket, German military organisation, late-war reports and Eastern Front documentation.

Kurland was one of the final major areas in which German forces continued defensive operations during the last months of the war. The surviving text in this document reflects the language and priorities of a wartime military bureaucracy: commendation, unit performance, reporting structures and the communication of developments through official channels. For historians, this makes the item useful not simply as a military paper collectible, but also as a primary-source object that illustrates how administrative communication functioned within the armed forces.

This Original OKW Kurland Battle Report 1944 retains several important physical characteristics. The typed text remains largely legible, with visible period stamps, handwritten registry marks and official departmental markings. The page also retains its original layout, Berlin letterhead and bureaucratic formatting. Two visible official stamps are present in the lower portion of the document, alongside a blue rectangular office stamp. These details support the document’s identity as a contemporary administrative wartime record.

Condition is consistent with age and use. The document shows toning, folds, handling wear and a noticeable irregular loss along the left edge. There are minor stains, marks and faded areas associated with its long history. These imperfections do not remove its documentary value; instead, they underline that this is a genuine surviving paper artifact from 1944. The exact condition, stamps, layout and degree of wear should be assessed carefully through the photographs.

The item is offered as a historical artifact for collectors, academic study, archival preservation and educational use. It is not presented as an endorsement of the ideology, organisations or political views associated with the period. The language contained within the original document belongs to its historical context and should be understood as a primary source from wartime administration.

For collectors of original Second World War documents, the Original OKW Kurland Battle Report 1944 offers a more specialised alternative to common military paperwork. It is not a generic form, identity paper or later facsimile. It is a period-issued administrative copy linked to an identifiable operational area, a specific date and a named military reporting structure.

This document would fit well within collections focused on the Eastern Front, Kurland operations, Wehrmacht administration, wartime correspondence, military paper ephemera and original German archival material. It may also be of interest to researchers studying the language of military commendation, late-war defensive operations and the circulation of reports within the German command structure.

Only the original document is included. The backing and display arrangement visible in the photographs are not included unless specifically stated otherwise.
