Description

Original Deutsches Reich Kennkarte issued to Lina Hermann, née Reitz, according to the handwritten details visible inside the document. The card is connected with Germersheim and bears official district stamps, including the authority of Der Landrat.

This is a civilian identity document, not a military document. It contains the holder’s portrait photograph, signature, fingerprints, personal details and official validation stamps. The visible Kennkarte number appears to be A 3049, although the handwritten details should be checked carefully from the photographs.

The document appears to be dated or validated in Germersheim on 16 July, with the final year not completely clear from the photographs. The personal details include the married surname Hermann and the maiden name Reitz, indicated by the German abbreviation “geb.”, meaning “born as” or “née”.

From a collector’s point of view, this is a good example of a complete German civilian identity card from the period. Its appeal lies in the presence of the original photograph, fingerprints, signature, official stamps and named female holder. These details give the piece more character than a blank or incomplete identity document.

The condition should be assessed from the photographs. The card shows visible age, handling, toning, surface wear, staining, edge fraying and general storage marks. Despite the wear, the photograph, fingerprints, signature and official stamps remain visible.

Offered strictly as a historical document and collector’s item.

Historical Context

The Kennkarte was a civil identity card used in Germany during the Third Reich period. It recorded personal details and usually included a photograph, fingerprints and official stamps. The card served as an official means of identification for civilians.

This example comes from Germersheim, a district town in the Palatinate region. The presence of the issuing authority Der Landrat places the document within local civil administration rather than military service.

German civilian identity documents
Deutsches Reich paperwork

Condition and Authenticity Note

The document shows visible signs of age and use, including worn fabric/card cover, frayed edges, surface marks, toning, stains and handling wear. The photograph and fingerprints remain present, and the official stamps are still visible.

The item is offered as an original period Kennkarte based on its format, materials, printing, photograph, stamps and handwritten entries. Some handwritten details are not fully legible from the photographs and should be assessed carefully.
