Description

Hitler Facsimile: Overview

An original promotion certificate issued from the Führer Headquarters on 12 July 1943, appointing Major der Schutzpolizei a.D. Oskar Lehmann to the honorary rank of Oberstleutnant der Schutzpolizei. It carries the printed facsimile signature of Adolf Hitler and the handwritten signature of Heinrich Himmler.

The distinction matters: the Hitler signature is a printed facsimile and forms part of the document’s design. It is not offered as a handwritten autograph. The principal autograph is Himmler’s signature, at the lower right, signed as representative of the Reich Minister of the Interior.

Historical Context

The Schutzpolizei was the uniformed branch of the German police. Promotion documents of this kind reflect the administrative structure of the police within the centralised state during the war years, and they combine military, political and civil-administrative history in one original document. The named recipient preserves a direct link to the individual and to the bureaucratic process behind the appointment.

Authenticity

The certificate is assessed as an original on the basis of its paper, printing, embossed seal and format. The Himmler signature is offered as handwritten; a written examination by a qualified handwriting examiner can be provided on request. The assessment rests on the combination of document and signature, not on any single feature.
