Description

Albert Speer Signed Letter: Overview

A typed letter signed by Albert Speer, dated Heidelberg, 9 October 1969, on his post-war letterhead “Albert Speer, dipl. ing., Fr. Architekt”, with his Heidelberg address and banking details at the foot. It is signed by hand in blue ink beneath the closing.

The content is what lifts it above a simple autograph: Speer gives his opinion on a handwriting sample connected with Adolf Hitler, and mentions sending a copy of his memoirs, “Erinnerungen”, at a price of 25 Deutsche Mark.

Historical Context

Albert Speer, Hitler’s architect and from 1942 Minister of Armaments, served twenty years in Spandau after Nuremberg and published his memoirs, “Erinnerungen”, in 1969, the year of this letter. His post-war correspondence is collected and studied internationally, and letters with identifiable content are particularly valued.
