Description
Goebbels Facsimile Signature Winter Relief Fund Certificate 1936-37
This Goebbels facsimile signature Winter Relief Fund certificate is an original German Ehrenurkunde, or Certificate of Honour, issued during the 1936–37 Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes campaign. The main collector appeal of the piece is the prominent period facsimile signature of Joseph Goebbels, printed in the lower right section beneath the official title “Reichsminister”.
The Goebbels facsimile signature Winter Relief Fund certificate is not a handwritten Joseph Goebbels autograph. The Goebbels signature is a period facsimile incorporated into the original certificate design. This distinction is essential for accurate cataloguing. However, the printed signature remains the principal visual and historical feature of the document, as it directly connects the certificate to the Propaganda Ministry and the official structure of the Winter Relief Fund campaign.
The certificate is headed “Ehrenurkunde” and was issued to recognise voluntary work carried out within the Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes during the 1936–37 campaign. The central wording expresses gratitude and recognition for dedicated service in the struggle against hunger and cold. The document is printed in an elaborate blackletter style, framed by a decorative border and designed as a formal presentation certificate.
The Goebbels facsimile signature Winter Relief Fund certificate also bears the facsimile signature of Erich Hilgenfeldt in the lower left section. Hilgenfeldt is identified by the printed title “Reichsbeauftragter”, while Goebbels is identified beneath his signature as “Reichsminister”. The two printed signatures form the principal official signature area of the certificate and are balanced around an embossed central seal.
This layout gives the certificate strong display value. The Goebbels facsimile signature is clearly positioned against the pale paper background and remains visually distinct despite the age-related folds and handling marks. For collectors of historical documents, this makes the item more attractive than an ordinary unsigned administrative form, as the name and printed official signature of Goebbels are directly incorporated into the original presentation format.
The certificate is named to Emil Brettmann, although the recipient’s name has been crossed through in ink. This amendment is visible and should be considered part of the document’s condition and history. The crossed-out name does not alter the original nature of the certificate but makes it an amended example rather than an untouched presentation piece.
The Goebbels facsimile signature Winter Relief Fund certificate retains its embossed official seal in the lower central area. The seal remains an important visual feature and supports the formal character of the document. The combination of decorative printing, large Gothic lettering, facsimile signature area and embossed seal makes this a visually striking surviving example of 1930s German official paper design.
The Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes was a state-controlled relief and fundraising organisation during the National Socialist period. Its certificates, collection material and printed documents are now collected and studied as historical records of propaganda, welfare administration and social mobilisation under dictatorship. This certificate is offered solely as a historical object for research, archive preservation, education and responsible collecting.
Condition is consistent with an original large-format paper certificate from 1936–37. The paper shows extensive fold lines, creasing, rippling, light age toning and handling wear. A small tear or area of paper separation is visible near the lower central section, close to the embossed seal. These condition features are shown clearly in the photographs and should be considered part of the item’s authentic period character.
The Goebbels facsimile signature Winter Relief Fund certificate should be stored flat in an acid-free archival sleeve and kept away from humidity, direct sunlight and adhesive materials. Because of the old folds and the small paper weakness near the seal, it should be handled carefully and never mounted using tape or glue. Conservation framing with archival materials and UV-protective glazing would be the best option for display.
Only the original certificate shown in the photographs is included. This is an original period document, with period Goebbels and Hilgenfeldt facsimile signatures, not a modern print or reproduction.
For collectors of German historical documents, Second World War-era paper material, propaganda studies, Winterhilfswerk archives and period certificates, this Goebbels facsimile signature Winter Relief Fund certificate offers a distinctive and displayable example. Its appeal lies in the large printed Goebbels signature, the official Reichsminister title, the embossed seal, the named campaign date and the survival of a complete original Ehrenurkunde.
This Goebbels facsimile signature Winter Relief Fund certificate is offered strictly as a historical document. It does not promote, endorse, minimise or glorify National Socialism, political repression, racism, antisemitism, violence or any ideology associated with the period.
