Description

Deutsche Reichspost Postsparbuch with Ausweiskarte – Original Wartime Savings Set

This Deutsche Reichspost Postsparbuch with Ausweiskarte is an original German postal savings set from the Second World War period. It includes the red Postsparbuch savings booklet and its corresponding Ausweiskarte, or identification card. Both pieces bear the matching account number 6.954.113, confirming that they were originally issued and used together as one administrative banking set.

The Deutsche Reichspost Postsparbuch with Ausweiskarte was used for postal savings deposits and withdrawals. The printed wording on the identification card explains that, when making withdrawals, both the savings book and the identification card had to be presented. This makes the surviving pair more desirable than an isolated booklet or loose card, since it preserves the original working relationship between account record and holder identification.

The red Postsparbuch cover is printed with “Deutsche Reichspost” and the title “Postsparbuch”. It retains a period postal-office cancellation from Knesebeck, Hannover, together with the account number printed beneath the title. The book is marked with the official eagle device and includes original internal pages for recording deposits, withdrawals and balances.

The accompanying Ausweiskarte is printed as “Ausweiskarte zum Postsparbuch Nr. 6.954.113”. It repeats the identical account number found on the book, making this a matching-number set rather than an unrelated combination. The card is printed in the same red colour family and retains the original official design, banking instructions and period symbols.

This Deutsche Reichspost Postsparbuch with Ausweiskarte is a civilian financial document, not a military pass or political membership card. Its importance lies in its connection to everyday savings, postal administration and the personal financial history of an individual account holder during the wartime years. Such material offers a more personal view of civilian life than many formal state documents.

Several interior pages show handwritten financial entries, ink figures and official postal stamps. The visible entries demonstrate that the savings book was used rather than kept as an unused blank form. These original marks add documentary value because they show the booklet functioning as an active record of deposits and withdrawals.

The visible postal stamp from Knesebeck, Hannover, gives the set additional regional context. The exact date should be verified directly from the original before being stated in a final catalogue entry, but the stamp remains clearly associated with the period use of the booklet. The account book and identification card should remain together, as separating them would reduce their historical integrity and collector appeal.

The Deutsche Reichspost Postsparbuch with Ausweiskarte is particularly suitable for collectors of postal history, German banking records, civilian wartime paperwork, historical identity documents and Second World War-era ephemera. It may also appeal to researchers interested in everyday administration, local post offices, financial documentation and paper records from Germany during the early 1940s.

Condition is appropriate for an original wartime postal savings set. The red covers show age toning, handling wear, rubbing, light staining and minor edge wear. The booklet spine remains present, although it shows normal use-related wear. The internal pages retain handwritten figures, stamps and original printing. The identification card shows similar age-related handling marks but remains legible and visually strong.

This Deutsche Reichspost Postsparbuch with Ausweiskarte should be stored flat in an archival polyester sleeve or acid-free document folder. It should be protected from direct sunlight, humidity, adhesive tape and unnecessary handling. The red paper covers are especially susceptible to fading and should not be exposed to strong light for extended periods.

Only the original Deutsche Reichspost Postsparbuch and matching Ausweiskarte shown in the photographs are included. No additional withdrawal forms, correspondence, frame, translation or other banking documents are included unless specifically stated.

This Deutsche Reichspost Postsparbuch with Ausweiskarte is offered strictly for historical research, archival preservation, education and responsible collecting. It does not promote, endorse or glorify National Socialism, political extremism, persecution, racism, antisemitism, violence or war.
