Description

PERIODICO 4 is an original Völkischer Beobachter newspaper, Berlin edition, dated Wednesday, 3 December 1941. This issue is a strong example of an original IIWW / WWII German newspaper from the final month of 1941, a period marked by intense reporting on North Africa, the Eastern Front, Crimea, British operations, American political pressure and the wider propaganda narrative of wartime Germany. As a historical paper collectible, it offers collectors and researchers an authentic printed source from the German press environment of the Second World War.

The Völkischer Beobachter was one of the most recognisable newspapers of the Third Reich period and is today collected as original wartime printed material. This Berlin edition displays the large masthead, the eagle emblem and the visible wording “Kampfblatt der nationalsozialistischen Bewegung Großdeutschlands,” making it immediately identifiable as period political press. From a collector’s point of view, the value of this Völkischer Beobachter issue lies not only in its historical context, but also in its typography, propaganda language, layout, headlines, photographs and the way military and civilian information was presented to the public during the IIWW period.

The front page is particularly interesting and visually strong. The main headline reads “Überall fühlbare Schläge der britischen Prestige-Kriegführung,” connected with the Africa campaign and British wartime prestige. Other visible sections refer to “Komitern und Überstaat,” “Neue Panikmache Roosevelts,” “Neue Ritterkreuzträger” and other political and military themes of the time. The front page combines large-format headline design, red printed emphasis lines and dense column text, giving the newspaper a strong display presence for any collection of WWII German newspapers, historical documents or wartime propaganda press.

The interior pages add further historical interest. One visible page includes the heading “Auf der Krim” and contains several photographs connected with the Crimea campaign, including military scenes, landscape images, a machine-gun position and portraits of decorated soldiers. This makes the issue especially relevant for collectors interested in the Eastern Front, Crimea, German military reporting and the way campaign imagery was used in wartime newspapers. The presence of photographic material increases the documentary value of this item, as many collectors prefer newspapers with visible illustrations, maps, portraits or battlefield-related photographs.

Another important aspect of this issue is its coverage of North Africa and Tobruk. The visible headline “Britenkreuzer vor Tobruk versenkt” places the newspaper within the wider context of the desert war, naval operations and Axis reporting on the Mediterranean theatre. The Africa campaign was one of the most heavily reported military subjects in late 1941, and this newspaper reflects that propaganda focus through its front-page narrative and interior coverage. For collectors of IIWW newspapers, Africa campaign material, Tobruk references or German wartime naval reporting, this issue has a clear thematic appeal.

The newspaper also includes international political material, with references to Roosevelt, Finland, Soviet-related themes and broader wartime diplomacy. These articles show how German newspapers combined military news with political messaging, ideological framing and commentary on foreign governments. This makes the Völkischer Beobachter useful not only as a collectible object but also as a primary source for studying wartime communication, propaganda structure and German public information during 1941.

Beyond the military and political content, the issue contains civilian and cultural material, including theatre notices, job advertisements, commercial listings, financial notices, public announcements and classified sections. These pages are often overlooked, but they are important for historical collectors because they show the everyday printed world around the war news. The contrast between front-page military propaganda and inner-page civilian advertisements gives the newspaper a fuller documentary character.

Condition is consistent with an original newspaper from 1941. The paper shows age toning, fold lines, handling wear, minor creasing, edge wear and natural signs of preservation over time. These features are normal in wartime newspapers and should be considered part of the historical character of the item. The photographs form an essential part of the description and should be reviewed carefully to assess the visible pages, margins, folds, print quality and general state of conservation. Completeness is not guaranteed unless every page is checked individually.

This original Völkischer Beobachter Berlin edition is suitable for collectors of WWII German newspapers, IIWW historical documents, Third Reich printed material, wartime propaganda press, Africa campaign references, Crimea campaign material, Eastern Front reporting, German home-front newspapers and original period ephemera. It is offered strictly as a historical collectible for documentation, research and preservation. Any symbols, terminology or imagery visible in the newspaper are part of the original historical object and are presented only for accurate description and collector transparency. No political, ideological or extremist affiliation is expressed or implied.
