Description

This original German Wehrpass was issued in Krefeld on 8 August 1939 to Hermann Dewin. The document is a good example of a pre-war / early-war German military service record book, showing the standard grey cover with printed eagle emblem, interior administrative pages, official Krefeld stamps and handwritten entries connected with mustering and military registration.

The Wehrpass was one of the central military identification and service record documents used in Germany during this period. Unlike a field Soldbuch, which was generally carried during active service, the Wehrpass recorded the holder’s personal information, registration status, mustering details, potential service obligations, administrative notes and later updates. For collectors, these documents are valued because they preserve named individual history, local military administration, official stamps, handwriting and the bureaucracy of the period.

The main identification page names the holder as Hermann Dewin and shows the document issued in Krefeld in August 1939. The booklet includes the printed contents page, mustering section, official stamps from the Wehrbezirkskommando Krefeld, and handwritten entries dated 1939 and 1941. The visible pages suggest an administrative military-registration document rather than a heavily filled combat record. This is important to describe honestly: based on the photographed pages, I would not present it as a combat-used Wehrpass unless further pages show unit service, campaign entries, awards, wounds or field records.

A particularly interesting feature of this group is the loose Wehrpass notice dated April 1943. This separate paper refers to Hermann Dewin, born 7 May 1907, and appears to relate to military registration / reporting obligations. The notice bears official printed text, handwriting, a Krefeld stamp and period folding. It adds documentary context and makes the group more complete than a simple empty or lightly filled Wehrpass alone.

Also included is a French civil document from Sarreguemines, Moselle, issued as an extract from the birth register. It refers to Armand Dewin, son of Frédéric Dewin and Jeanne Müller. Because the first name differs from the Wehrpass entry, I would describe this carefully as an accompanying French birth extract connected to the Dewin name, rather than stating with absolute certainty that it is the same person unless further research confirms it. However, the shared surname, birth date context and Sarreguemines / Saargemünd connection make it an interesting associated document within the group.

The item has strong collector appeal for those interested in German Wehrpass documents, Krefeld military administration, identity documents, border-region paperwork, Alsace-Lorraine / Moselle related history, German-French civil documentation and original wartime bureaucracy. The presence of both German and French papers gives the group a more layered historical character than a standalone booklet.

Condition is used and consistent with age. The Wehrpass cover shows wear, rubbing, marks, small stains, softened corners and handling signs. Interior pages show toning, minor marks, handwriting, official stamps and general paper ageing. Some pages appear lightly filled. The loose Wehrpass notice has fold lines, creases, age toning and handling wear. The French birth extract also shows folding, paper ageing and light wear. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an essential part of the description.

This is an original historical document group offered for collecting, research and documentation purposes only. It is not offered with any political, ideological or extremist meaning. The historical value lies in the named paperwork, official stamps, administrative content and period documentary context.

A solid and visually interesting 1939 Wehrpass group for Hermann Dewin, issued in Krefeld, with additional 1943 Wehrpass note and associated French civil birth extract connected to the Dewin family name.
