Description
The Original WWII German Mother’s Cross in Bronze 1938 with Ribbon is a historical German decoration from the Second World War period, officially known as the Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter in Bronze. This decoration is also commonly referred to by collectors as the Mutterkreuz Bronze or German Mother’s Cross in Bronze.
This example corresponds to the bronze grade of the award. The obverse shows the distinctive blue and white enamel cross with a central circular emblem bearing the inscription “Der Deutschen Mutter”. The reverse is marked with the foundation date “16 Dezember 1938” and carries the well-known facsimile signature of Adolf Hitler. The medal is accompanied by its blue and white ribbon, which gives the piece a complete and attractive display appearance.
The Mother’s Cross in Bronze was part of a three-grade decoration system. The bronze grade was awarded to mothers with four or five children, while higher grades existed in silver and gold. Period references and collector catalogues identify the bronze class as the third grade of the decoration, with the reverse usually carrying the 16 December 1938 date and facsimile signature.
From a collecting perspective, the Original WWII German Mother’s Cross in Bronze 1938 with Ribbon is a very recognizable and historically significant item. It represents the civil and social award system of wartime Germany rather than a combat decoration. For this reason, it is often collected together with German civil awards, family-related documents, award certificates, period photographs, identity papers, and other historical material from the 1930s and 1940s.
The condition is visible in the photographs. The enamel remains attractive, with visible age, patina, surface wear, and handling marks consistent with a period piece. The bronze-toned metal shows natural darkening and wear. The ribbon is present and shows age-related use, fraying and wear, which is normal for an original period textile item. The reverse inscription remains visible, including the date 16 December 1938 and the facsimile signature.
Comparable bronze Mother’s Cross examples with ribbon are currently seen in the collector market around €45–69, depending on condition, ribbon, dealer, and presentation. One dealer example is listed at €69, another archived example sold at €45, and another archived example with ribbon was listed at €55.
This piece is offered strictly as a historical collectible. It is not sold for political, ideological or propagandistic purposes. Its value is historical, documentary and collectible, especially for those interested in WWII-era civil decorations, German award systems, and original period militaria.
