Description
PERIODICO 6 is an original Völkischer Beobachter newspaper, Berlin edition, dated Thursday, 30 October 1941. This issue is an excellent example of an original IIWW / WWII German newspaper from the autumn of 1941, printed during a decisive period of the Eastern Front campaign. The masthead clearly reads Völkischer Beobachter, Berliner Ausgabe, with the issue date visible at the top right. The newspaper presents a strong wartime layout with large headlines, red emphasis lines, military photographs, political commentary, battlefield reporting, cultural sections, classified advertisements and commercial notices.
The front page is visually striking and highly representative of German wartime press design. The main headline reads “Eiserne Sparkonten steuerfrei”, referring to wartime savings accounts and financial policy for wage and salary recipients. Below this, the page includes the important military heading “Durchbruch zur Halbinsel Krim”, accompanied by two battlefield photographs described as Soviet defensive trenches on the Crimean peninsula and a breach made by assault engineers for following assault troops. This gives the issue particular collector interest for those focused on the Crimea campaign, the Eastern Front, Operation Barbarossa, German wartime reporting and original WWII press material.
The Crimea content is one of the strongest historical elements of this newspaper. In late 1941, the German advance into the Crimean peninsula was a major military subject in the German press. This issue reflects how the campaign was communicated to the public through official language, military imagery and propaganda framing. For collectors of IIWW newspapers, German documents, Eastern Front ephemera and historical press photography, this issue offers a direct printed connection to the military developments of October 1941.
Another important section visible in the newspaper concerns U-boat warfare. One interior page includes the headline “In harten Kämpfen zur Halbinsel Krim erzwungen” alongside reports about U-boats sinking ships and references to tonnage. The article “Unbezwingbarer Angriffsgeist unserer U-Boote” adds further naval interest, making this issue relevant not only to Eastern Front collectors but also to those interested in Kriegsmarine-related wartime press, Atlantic warfare, naval propaganda and submarine operations as represented in contemporary German newspapers.
The newspaper also includes a large illustrated section titled “Mit ‘Achmed’ über Leningrad”, with aviation-related imagery and references to Leningrad. The visible photographs show aircraft, military scenes and visual reporting from the front. This gives the issue additional appeal for collectors interested in Luftwaffe-related press material, Leningrad campaign references, wartime aviation photographs and German illustrated newspaper content. These illustrated sections were an important part of wartime communication, combining battlefield reporting with carefully selected images intended for the home front.
The issue also contains references to Ritterkreuz recipients and decorated soldiers. One page includes “Träger des Ritterkreuzes” with portraits of several soldiers, and another article references the Ritterkreuz for determined military action. Ritterkreuz-related content is especially relevant for militaria collectors, as original newspapers often recorded how awards, decorations and individual soldiers were publicly presented during the IIWW period. While this item is not an award document, the printed references to Ritterkreuz recipients add significant historical and collector value.
Beyond the military content, this Völkischer Beobachter issue also preserves a broader picture of daily life in wartime Berlin. The visible pages include theatre listings, cinema announcements, cultural articles, sports content, job advertisements, legal notices, commercial advertising, household products and civilian services. These details are often overlooked, but they are highly valuable for researchers and collectors because they show the relationship between war, propaganda, economy and everyday civilian life in Germany during 1941.
Condition is consistent with original wartime newspaper material from the 1940s. The paper shows age toning, fold lines, creases, handling marks, small edge wear and general signs of storage and age. These characteristics are normal for large-format period newspapers printed on fragile wartime paper. The photographs should be reviewed carefully, as they form an essential part of the description and show the visible condition, typography, page layout and printed content.
This original Völkischer Beobachter Berlin edition is suitable for collectors of WWII German newspapers, IIWW historical press, Eastern Front documents, Crimea campaign material, Kriegsmarine and U-boat references, Luftwaffe-related press, Ritterkreuz content, Third Reich printed ephemera and original historical documents. The item is offered strictly as a historical collectible for study, research and preservation. Any symbols, terminology or imagery visible in the newspaper are part of the original historical object and are presented only for accuracy and transparency. No political, ideological or extremist affiliation is expressed or implied.
